Nita Ambani’s hand-embroidered chikankari sari took more than a year to make
The antique mauve chiffon sari showcased the centuries-old craft of Lucknowi chikankari, with delicate floral jaals running across its sheer surface. Lucknow-based master artisan Anjani Kashyap hand-embroidered the sari over the course of a year using traditional do taar chikankari technique, and incorporating intricate jaali, murri, ghaas patti and balda work. Draped in the classic nivi style, Ambani paired the scallop-hem sari with a custom organza-and-lace. Designed by Manish Malhotra, the blouse’s pleated- and ruffle-detailing complement the textures on the sari.
A pair of diamond drop earrings, a diamond bangle, a statement ring and a watch were the perfect accessories complementing the monochromatic look. Ambani’s beauty look remained minimal, featuring kohl-rimmed eyes, defined lashes and pink lips. Her hair was styled in a centre-parted bun stacked with purple rose flowers and a matching bindi.
From Vogue’s fashion desk:
“When your sari is rich in texture and detail, resist the urge to accessorise further. A cluster of fresh flowers and a pair of earrings will always feel more elegant than excess. But if you want to take it a notch further, add a long pendant necklace in rose gold to cut through the monotone look,” says Manglien Gangte, Vogue India fashion associate.
