There’s a new all-time home run king in the ACC.
Louisville first baseman Tague Davis blasted his 32nd home run of the season on Friday, May 8, against Miami (FL), setting a new NCAA record for the first time since 1997.
He passed Florida State’s J.D. Drew (1997) and Wake Forest’s Brock Wilken (2023) previous record of 31. He accomplished the feat in just 55 games, 11 fewer than Wilken and 12 fewer than Drew.

The barehanded slugger broke it in the 11th inning during the Cardinals’ charged up nine-run frame. Due up seventh, Davis jumped on the first pitch of his at-bat, sending a 390 ft laser over the left field wall. The sophomore trotted around the bases with a grin, extending Louisville’s lead to five and embracing his teammates, left fielder Zion Rose and catcher Jimmy Nugent at home plate.

The homer also lifted the left-hander to 89 RBIs, breaking Louisville’s all-time record, which has stood since 1992, and was his second HR of the game.
The sophomore tied the conference record in the fourth inning, sending a three-run blast to a similar spot as the second one in the Hurricanes’ ballpark. It marked his sixth multi-homer game of the season.

A West Chester, Pa. native, Davis has put together one of the best seasons in Cardinals history, far beyond the jumbo-sized home run number.
He’s batting .364 with the ACC’s highest slugging percentage (.879) and second-best OPS (.879), a year after setting the Louisville’s freshman home run record (18) . He’s in a league of his own when it comes to RBIs, 15 more than any other player in the country.

His stellar campaign has cemented him in the Golden Spikes Award conversation, given to the top amateur baseball player in the country. He would become the second Louisville player to ever win it, nine years after Brendan McKay did in 2017.
Davis added to his total on Saturday, homering again against Miami for his 33rd. He’s five away from breaking the BBCOR era record, set by Georgia’s Charlie Condon (34) in 2023.
Tague’s done it again.
