Kajol’s Varun Bahl sari is inundated with hand-embroidered, three-dimensional floral appliqués
An extension of the designer’s A/W ’25 couture collection, Whispers of Ember, Kajol’s custom piece showcased Bahl’s signature embroidery and surface ornamentation techniques. The sari features a gamut of embroideries—aari, zardozi, nakshi, dabka and cutdana—along with embellishments in the form of sequins, pearls and bugle, caviar and glass beads, which came together to craft three-dimensional floral and foliate appliqué motifs along the border and as bouquets scattered generously across the drape. Bahl is celebrated for his ability to marry heritage Indian craftsmanship with contemporary silhouettes, a sensibility seen in the sari’s sleeveless blouse’s sculptural design and pearl-encrusted detailing.
Stylist Mohit Rai accessorised the look with statement jhumkas and a ring. Kajol’s beauty complemented the monochromatic look with kohl-rimmed eyes, dramatic lashes and pink lips, while her hair, worn in a voluminous blowout with free-flowing lengths, added to the timeless appeal of the celebratory look.

A sapphire statement ring, emerald earrings or gemstone accents can beautifully break up the monochromatic palette while complementing the richness of the gold detailing. You can also add an embroidered pashmina shawl to add a layer of subtle colour,” says Divya Balakrishnan, Vogue India fashion associate.
