Chhath Puja special train 2025: After Diwali, Indian Railways (IR) has planned to operate 1,500 special trains in addition to regular services over the next five days to manage the heavy passenger rush ahead of Chhath Puja. This means an average of 300 special trains running each day. This year, Chhath Puja will be celebrated from October 25 to October 28.

The national transporter is operating over 12,000 special trains across the country between October 1 and November 30, 2025 — a span of 61 days. In a statement issued on October 22, Indian Railways said: “A total of 11,865 trips (916 trains) have been notified, including 9,338 reserved and 2,203 unreserved trips. This marks a significant increase from last year, when 7,724 Puja and Diwali special trains were run, reflecting Indian Railways’ continued commitment to ensuring smooth and convenient travel during the festive season.”

The railways is operating Chhath puja special trains on various routes including: Mumbai-Gorakhpur, Mumbai-Danapur, Panvel-Chiplun, New Delhi to Darbhanga, Dahar ka Balaji to Patliputra, Sabarmati to Muzaffarpur, New Delhi to Patna, Kharagpur to KSR Bengaluru, Barauni to Ernakulam, Podanur to Barauni, SMVT Bengaluru to Muzaffarpur, Mumbai Central to Shakurbasti, Bandra Terminus to Jaipur, Udhna to Samastipur, Udhna to Bhagalpur, Udhna to Jaynagar, Vadodara to Kolkata, Ankleshwar to Samastipur, Indore to Mumbai Central, Rajkot to Barauni, Howrah to Gorakhpur, Kolkata to Jodhpur, Sealdah to Gorakhpur, Bhagalpur to Anand Vihar, Kolkata to Mau, Asansol to Udaipur, etc.

Last week, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited New Delhi and Anand Vihar railway stations to review arrangements for passenger safety and convenience during the festive season. During his inspection, the minister inspected the holding areas and interacted directly with passengers.
