
PM Modi China Visit Live Updates: PM Modi is meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping today before the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Tianjin, 120 km away from Beijing. A time slot of about 40 minutes has been scheduled for the talks. PM Modi will be accompanied by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. This marks Prime Minister Modi’s first trip to China since the Galwan Valley clashes in 2020.
The SCO summit: “Landed in Tianjin, China. Looking forward to deliberations at the SCO Summit and meeting various world leaders,” Modi said in a post on X, also indicating the focus was the multilateral summit. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit holds major significance for India, particularly as it comes in the wake of the US imposing 50 per cent tariffs. The SCO currently has 10 full members: India, Belarus, China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, in addition to several dialogue partners and observer states.

Kazan October ’24 meet: PM Modi and President Xi last met in the Russian city of Kazan in October 2024 on the sidelines of the BRICS summit which resulted in disengagement of troops from two key friction points in eastern Ladakh, followed by talks leading to the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, Indian visas for Chinese tourists and steps for revival of direct flights between the two countries.
