Aryna Sabalenka vs. Coco Gauff
🤜 Head to Head: Gauff leads 6-5 (1-1 in 2025)
- Sabalenka d. Gauff 6-3, 7-6(3)—Madrid final
- Gauff d. Sabalenka 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4—Roland Garros final
One of the most competitive rivalries at the top of women’s tennis will play out in one of the highest-stakes matches of the WTA Finals, pitting top seed Aryna Sabalenka against Coco Gauff for the first time since their unforgettable Roland Garros final.
It was there that Sabalenka came just short of winning the title in Paris, with Gauff employing remarkable defense and fighting spirit to capture her second career major title. In the months that followed, the American struggled mightily with her serve while Sabalenka defended her US Open title—effectively shoring up the year-end WTA No. 1 ranking.
In Riyadh, both women have scored straightforward wins over Jasmine Paolini while playing closer matches against Jessica Pegula. But where Gauff fell in three sets, Sabalenka soared over the finish line, winning five of the final six games to remain undefeated in group play.
Sabalenka has a clear shot of making the semifinals, and can gaurantee it by defeating Gauff by any score on Thursday. But if Gauff and Pegula both win in straight sets, Sabalenka would be eliminated, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion to round-robin action.
