
IMD Weather Forecast Today Live Updates: As the northern parts of India battle heavy rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said September is likely to witness above-normal rainfall, warning of possible landslides and flash floods in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The monthly average rainfall in September is expected to be more than 109 per cent of the long-period average of 167.9 mm, it said. Delhi witnessed its wettest August, logging 614.2 mm of rain against 484.9 mm, nearly 27% above normal. Punjab also recorded its highest-ever August rainfall since 2000, with the state receiving 253.7 mm against the normal 146.2 mm — a 74% surplus, according to the IMD.
Rain batters North India: A motorable bridge on the Jyotirmath-Malari highway in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district was washed away early Sunday after the Tamak stream swelled due to heavy rain. In Punjab, flooding has submerged nearly 3 lakh acres of farmland, affecting around 1.25 lakh people. In Mumbai, heavy rainfall caused severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions, bringing normal life to a standstill. At least four people have died, and several others were injured or reported missing as heavy rains battered parts of Rajasthan over the weekend.

Cloudburst in Chennai: A cloudburst struck Chennai on Saturday, bringing intense rainfall across the city. According to the IMD, Manali recorded 270 mm, New Manali Town received 260 mm, and Wimco Nagar saw 230 mm of rainfall. The IMD reported on Sunday that several areas within the Chennai district experienced widespread and very heavy rainfall, with three locations recording extremely heavy downpours of over 200 mm within a few hours.
