The minister made the announcement at the launch event of the 132 KV Gokulnagar sub-station in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
“We decided to launch a project of 800 MW pump storage at Chawmanu. A 400 KV sub-station will be set up at Suryamaninagar for power supply to Bangladesh. We have a plan to export power to Nepal. For this, a meeting was held today in New Delhi. However, the final decision would be taken by the Centre,” said Nath.
“We produce power from gas in Tripura. But gas is depleting slowly. However, the power demand is increasing with the advancement of modernisation. We (the government) are moving toward modernisation. It is needed for progress,” added Nath.
Meanwhile, a power department official said Tripura had 7.21 lakh power consumers in 2018, and the figure rose to 10.38 lakh in the seven years since the BJP came to power in the state. In tandem, the number of 132 KV sub-stations has been increased from 12 to 21 in the same period.
“Before the formation of the BJP government, there were 485 km of 132 KV lines, and the figure has jumped to 986 km in seven years. Work on another 102 km is underway,” added the official.
In August, Nath had stated that the state government has been developing infrastructure to keep pace with the projected daily power requirement of 700 megawatt in 2031-32.
