Ruturaj Gaikwad who scored a century in the 1st innings for Maharashtra against Chandigarh in a Ranji Trophy Group B encounter, shared his player of the match trophy with Prithvi Shaw in a heartfelt gesture. This was after Shaw had slammed the third fastest double hundred in Ranji Trophy history, helping Maharashtra clinch the match by 144 runs.
Shaw had endured an ignominious start to his Ranji Trophy campaign last week when he fell for a duck in his first innings against Kerala. He bounced back in the same match with a half-century as Maharashtra secured the innings lead. Shaw’s hundred vs Chandigarh had broken a century drought of 20 months, after having recorded a century for Mumbai in February 2024.
Shaw is looking to reignite his career in top-level cricket after a torrid season last year in which he was dropped by Mumbai due to issues with his fitness and discipline.

Shaw had been granted a no-objection certificate from Mumbai to change teams in June. “At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer,” Shaw said in a statement. “I am deeply grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for the opportunities and support I have received over the years.”
In the match, seamers Mukesh Choudhary and Ramakrishna Shekhar Ghosh took four wickets each to power Maharashtra to victory over Chandigarh. Set an imposing target of 464 after Prithvi Shaw’s scintillating 222-run knock, Chandigarh ended third day’s play at 129 for one. Eventually, they were all out for 319 in 94.1 overs on the final evening.
The outright victory helped Maharashtra bag a full six points from the match, while there was nothing for the home team Chandigarh. While the bowlers did their job on the final day, a lot of credit for Maharashtra’s victory must go to Shaw, gave his team enough runs on the board and also time to take all 10 wickets in Chandigarh’s second innings.
