Just when you thought that even Lionel Messi mush have his limitations, he manages to surprise you. The latest piece of trickery from the puny magician with a permanent spell on the football was providing an assist that was so good that stunned defenders could only stand and gawk as the striker slotted the ball into goal. It was a piece of football’s skill that left even Inter Miami fans stunned into silence.
Why?
Because Messi had ended up assisting the opposition team’s striker!
The incident happened in the second minute of the game, where Messi came rushing back to the midfield to help out his defence. But he mis-controlled the pass to him with his famed left foot. Then, to make matters worse, he tried to pass the ball to another teammate near the Inter Miami box and ended up passing to Montreal’s Prince Owusu, who converted to help the team lead 1-0 over Inter Miami just two minutes into the game. What was strange was that Messi was under no real pressure when he passed the ball to Owusu. In fact, the closest player to Messi at that point was his own teammate.
The Argentine legend held his head in his hands as Montreal players celebrated.

But just in case fans were starting to think that Messi is human after all, he came roaring back into the game, scoring two goals, and assisting another one (this time to his own teammate) to help Inter Miami defeat CF Montreal 4-1 on Saturday night.
He helped Tadeo Allende score Inter Miami’s equaliser in the 33rd minute. Then, seven minutes later the legend got on the scoresheet himself. Luis Suárez headed a long ball from Tomás Avilés into Messi’s path. The Argentine star dribbled into the box and coolly finished with his left foot to help Inter Miami take a 2-1 lead into the 40th minute.
Soon enough, Telasco Segovia made it 3-1 for Inter Miami. Then it was Messi who tied up the game with a neat bow on top in the 62nd minute as he weaved through a pack of Montreal defenders to score his 12th goal of the season from 14 MSL games.
