Taking on Gustavo Heide, the 27-year-old French qualifier was up an early break on the Brazilian when he got wrong-footed on game point, tumbling to the ground. Despite looking out of the point, Halys made a Hail Mary stab at Heide’s reply, striking an impossibly heavy forehand with only his upper body strength on which to rely.
Though Heide tracked the near-winner, he missed long and Halys got some well-earned applause.
