The England skipper Ben Stokes was left furious and had a heated, animated exchange with the on-field umpire Sharfuddoula on Friday during the last session of Day 3 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. This happened when Stokes argued that Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal asked for a DRS after the 15-second timer had run out of time.
In the eighth over of India’s second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal — who looked in supreme touch — was adjudged LBW to an inswinger from Josh Tongue. Though the dismissal appeared plumb at first glance, Jaiswal discussed with his opening partner, KL Rahul, as the DRS timer ticked down.
This is when the England captain noticed that the timer had expired by the time Jaiswal signalled for a review. Stokes was visibly furious with the on-field umpire from Bangladesh and engaged in a heated exchange, arguing that India should not have been allowed to take the review after 15 seconds.

However, as it turned out, Jaiswal’s decision to challenge the on-field call backfired as the ball-tracking showed three reds, confirming the dismissal and sending the left-hander back to the pavilion.
Earlier, Jaiswal and Stokes also shared a few words in the middle during the first innings on Wednesday. The incident happened during India’s batting when Jaiswal was completing a run with Stokes saying something to the Indian batter when was gunning for the non-striker’s end.

To which Jaiswal replied, “You don’t want to hear from me, come on.” The matter stopped there before it reignited in the same over with Stokes again saying something to Jaiswal to rile the batter up. However, that wouldn’t do much to rattle the batter with Jaiswal reaching 50 in the very next over.
Stokes, meanwhile, would finally get his man in the 46th over when Jaiswal tried to play a cut, got a faint edge and was gobbled up by Jamie Smith behind the stumps.
