A late goal from Mikel Oyarzabal sealed a 2-1 win for Spain in Euro 2024 Final against England on Sunday at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
Coming off the bench, Oyarzabal slotted home the winning goal to make Spain a record fourth time winners of the European Championships, their first continental title since 2012.
After a cagey first half in Berlin, where both teams failed to find the back of the net, Spain upped the ante early in the second half.
A lovely infield shuffle from the 17-year-old Lamine Yamal followed by a cross-pass in the path of Spain’s left-winger Nico Williams ended up as the opener. Williams slotted the ball past Jordan Pickford at the bottom corner of the far post – a goal fitting to decide the final. Only that it wasn’t.
Spain’s dominance early in the second half saw them create more openings, that were not too far away from being turned into goals. But the one-goal advantage, as it remained, was quickly turned down by England.
In the 70th minute, Cole Palmer was substituted in for Kobbie Mainoo. The Chelsea player took three minutes to combine alongside Jude Bellingham for England’s equalizer.
Spain would switch gears with the time running out as Williams combined alongside Dani Olmo by the inward right to carve open an opportunity for Yamal, who shot straight at Pickford.
The winner finally came via another substitute, this time for Spain, as Oyarzabal pounced onto a Marc Cucurella low cross from the left to see his team home.
Managed by Luis de la Fuente, Spain went on to win all seven of their games in Euro 2024.
