BJP and JD(U) leaders Sunday weighed in on the rift within the Lalu Prasad Yadav family after his daughter Rohini Acharya announced she was quitting politics and cutting ties with her family a day after the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan lost the Bihar Assembly polls.
BJP Bihar president Dilip Jaiswal said he had seen television reports on Acharya’s statement and said, “As Rohini Acharya has said, she was beaten… the daughter who donated a kidney to save Lalu ji’s life is now being thrown out, it is painful. I won’t comment much, but I will say this to Lalu ji and Rabri ji: save your family from falling apart. An outsider is breaking your family – protect it.”

JD(U) MLC Khalid Anwar questioned her decision to enter politics. “Why did Rohini Acharya come from Singapore to do politics in Bihar? Who invited her into politics? And if she entered politics only because she is Lalu Yadav ji’s daughter, then crying and bringing family disputes into the public will not earn her any sympathy,” he said.

Acharya’s announcement came on Saturday, when she wrote on X that she was quitting politics and “disowning” her family. She said: “This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do, and I am taking all the blame.” She did not explain her remarks.
Her exit added to tensions within the RJD’s first family. Last month, she unfollowed Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav on X after posting remarks critical of Sanjay Yadav’s influence in the party. Sanjay, a Rajya Sabha MP, works closely with Tejashwi. Rameez is a long-time friend of Tejashwi.
Acharya contested the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Saran but lost to BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy by more than 13,000 votes.
