Senior officials of the child welfare committee in Madhya Pradesh’s Chattarpur have been booked after a minor rape survivor that they allegedly sent back to the home of the accused was allegedly sexually assaulted for the second time.
Superintendent of Police Chattarpur Agam Jain confirmed that an FIR was registered against the local CWC chairperson, five committee members, the District Women and Child Development Officer, the One Stop Centre administrator, a counsellor, a caseworker, and another woman, under various legal provisions.
The alleged incident took place in February 2025, when a 15-year-old girl was abducted by the accused from Chhatarpur. He allegedly took her to Delhi but was apprehended by the Gurgaon Police.
A case was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Panna, and the accused was arrested. After the survivor’s family refused to take her home, she was placed in a One Stop Centre – a welfare centre for women — from February to March.
According to the police, the CWC then sent the survivor to the home of the accused’s sister-in-law, who she was related to. By this time, the accused was out on bail.
It was then that the second assault allegedly occurred.
The survivor allegedly shared her ordeal on April 29 during a counselling session at the One Stop Centre.
“Investigations revealed that the District Programme Officer and One Stop Centre staff allegedly tried to suppress the case. Action has been taken against those who made wrong decisions and concealed the matter,” a senior police officer said.
