PM Modi Assam Visit Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP)-led government in Assam has been correcting all the ‘wrongs’ of Congress in the state, alleging that encroachments on farmers’ land and on places of worship were carried out under the previous Congress government. “Since the formation of the BJP-led NDA government, we have begun to correct those wrongs and remove illegal claims,” Modi said, claiming that lakhs of acres of land have been reclaimed from infiltrators in Assam under BJP’s leadership, news agency PTI reported.
Modi also said he was pained over Congress party’s insults of Bharat Ratna awardee and legendary singer-composer Bhupen Hazarika, alleging that the wounds inflicted by former Indian PM Jawaharlal Nehru during Chinese aggression of 1962 on people of Assam is yet to heal, news agency PTI reported. In 2019, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge had slammed Modi’s government for conferring the award to a ‘singer’ instead of spiritual leader Shivakumara Swami. Modi hailed Assam as one of the fastest-growing states in India, under the BJP leadership, saying that it is registering a growth rate of around 13 per cent in the present times, news agency PTI reported.
