Pakistan suffered one of their heaviest ODI defeats of all time as they endured a harrowing 202-run defeat in the three-match series decider against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad on Tuesday night.
After being stunned by West Indies captain Shai Hope’s blazing 18th ODI century, Pakistan suffered the worst-possible start in their 295-run chase as three of the top-four batters were dismissed for ducks. Spearheaded by young pace sensation Jayden Seales’s brilliant six-wicket haul (6/18), Pakistan folded for a paltry 92, marking one of their worst performances with the bat in ODIs and their biggest-ever defeat against the West Indies in 50 years.
Pakistan bore five ducks in the innings for the fourth time in an ODI, the most among all teams. Openers Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique, captain Mohammad Rizwan, Hasan Ali and Abrar Ahmed all failed to open the scoring as West Indies pipped Pakistan for their first series victory in 34 overs.
Adjudged player of the match for his 94-ball 120, Hope surpassed Desmond Haynes as West Indies’ third-highest century-maker in the ODI format behind Chris Gayle and Brian Lara. Since his ODI debut, only India batting heavyweights Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have smashed more ODI tons.

Jayden Seales breaks Dale Steyn’s record
With his rapid burst while bagging his maiden ODI five-for, Seales broke South Africa pace legend Dale Steyn’s record for the best bowling figures against Pakistan in an ODI. Seales’ 6/18 pipped Steyn’s 6/38 against the same opposition in 2013. Seales is also the first West Indies bowler to bag a six-wicket haul against Pakistan. The 23-year-old was also adjudged the Player of the Series for his 10 wickets in three matches.
