Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been injured, and in a BCCI press release ahead of the 1st T20I in Canberra, the statement read that he will be missing the first three T20Is. “Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out for the first three T20Is. The all-rounder, who was recovering from his left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide, complained of neck spasms, which has impacted his recovery and mobility. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,” said the BCCI in a post on its X handle.

On Wednesday, when asked about Reddy’s injury fitness update for the next game, Morkel said to the reporters: “Yes, he did all his work that was needed or expected of him today, fielding, batting, bowling, and he ticked all of that. So we will find out now, after the assessment, where he is at.”
Reddy’s absence has left Shivam Dube as the only seam bowling all-rounder available for India, with their premier all-rounder already recovering from a quadriceps injury. Dube had earlier been ruled out in the opening round of the Ranji Trophy with back stiffness.
Nitish’s role
Although the 22-year-old has been part of the side, there have been a few questions raised on his role in the team. In the recently concluded Test series at home, the fast-bowling all-rounder did not have a lot of bowling work to do, which baffled pundits and ex-cricketers. When asked about it after the 2nd Test in New Delhi, Indian red-ball skipper Shubman Gill answered by saying.
“He didn’t really get to bowl in this match (2nd Test vs West Indies). We don’t want players to only play matches overseas. That puts a lot of pressure on the players. We want to groom certain players that we think can help us win matches overseas because that’s been a challenge for us,” Gill said to the broadcasters.
