Announcing financial assistance of Rs 1,200 crore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Dehradun to take stock of flood situation and damage caused due to floods and landslides in the affected areas of Uttarakhand.
Prime Minister Modi conducted an official meeting in Dehradun to review the relief and rehabilitation measures undertaken and assessed the damage. He said that there is a need for a “multi-dimensional approach to help the entire region and its people recover” — including measures such as rebuilding homes under the PM Awas Yojana, restoring national highways, reconstructing schools, providing relief through the Prime Minister National Relief Fund, and distributing mini kits for livestock.
According to the latest bulletin, Uttarakhand has so far reported 86 deaths since April this year till September 11, with 94 missing cases in natural disasters. Sixty-seven people remain missing after the Dharali disaster that took place on August 5. While 4,854 houses were partially damaged, 237 were severely affected, and 277 were fully affected.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, financial assistance will be extended under “special project’’ submitted by the Uttarakhand government for reconstruction of houses in rural areas to eligible households damaged due to floods.
The PM was supposed to conduct an aerial survey, but it was called off due to inclement weather.
The Union Government has already sent inter-ministerial central teams to visit Uttarakhand to assess the extent of damage, and based on their detailed report, further assistance will be considered, said a communication from the government.
Modi has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured in the floods and related disasters. He declared that children orphaned by the recent floods and landslides will receive assistance through the PM CARES for children scheme, ensuring their long-term care and welfare.

The central government will further review the assessment based on the memorandum of the state as well as the report of the central teams.
Modi also met with affected families to offer condolences and support. He met personnel of the National Disaster Response Force, the State Disaster Response Force, and Aapda Mitra volunteers, who have been involved in the rescue operations.
