Women’s champion: Amanda Anisimova
Anisimova already re-wrote the narrative from her Wimbledon final double-bagel by clipping Iga Swiatek in the quarters. Now she needs to finish the job against Sabalenka.
Men’s champion: Carlos Alcaraz
Alcaraz was surgical against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals on Friday, while Sinner’s medical timeout during his four-set semifinal against Félix Auger-Aliassime gives me pause. It makes me think Carlitos could become the first man ever to win the US Open without dropping a set.

Women’s champion: Amanda Anisimova
This has become a tournament of destiny for Amanda. After what happened in the Wimbledon final, her positive attitude and powerful game have produced a redemption story that can only end with her first major final. However, I did pick Sabalenka at the start of the tournament, so I’ll be correct either way!
Men’s champion: Carlos Alcaraz
The Spaniard has kept his electric game and big smile while becoming the most consistent player this fortnight. No sets or joy lost through six matches, culminating with a decisive semifinal victory over Novak Djokovic. The 1993 film Carlito’s Way was famously shot in NYC, and I think Carlitos will star as the King of Queens for a second time in his already-epic career.
