Katerina Siniakova clinches year-end No. 1 doubles ranking for fifth time in career

Katerina Siniakova has clinched the WTA’s year-end No. 1 doubles ranking for the incredible fifth time in her career.

Coming into the WTA Finals, she needed two round-robin wins—alongside Taylor Townsend—in order to secure it. And two matches is all they needed to do it, battling past Timea Babos and Luisa Stefani in their first match on Sunday, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6, and outdoing Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe in their second match on Tuesday, 6-4, 7-6 (3).

On Wednesday, Siniakova was officially presented with her year-end No. 1 trophy at a special ceremony in Riyadh.

“It’s amazing for me and I’m just so happy I’ve done it again,” she commented. “There’s been so many great memories this season and I’m just so grateful I can lift this trophy again.”

And this was a historic one for the Czech, too: Siniakova now ties Martina Navratilova for most year-end No. 1 finishes in WTA doubles rankings history, since they began in 1984.

MOST YEAR-END DOUBLES NO. 1 FINISHES (since 1984):

  • 5: Martina Navratilova [1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1999]
  • 5: Katerina Siniakova [2018, 2021, 2022, 2024, 2025]
  • 4: Cara Black [2005, 2007, 2008, 2009]
  • 4: Liezel Huber [2007, 2008, 2009, 2011]

One of Siniakova’s No. 1 finishes, in 2018, came as co-No. 1s with Barbora Krejcikova. Three of Black and Huber’s also came as co-No. 1s, with each other, from 2007 to 2009.
