Things got interesting after the third round—not only did he pass Carlos Alcaraz for No. 4 after the Spaniard lost his third-round match, but then, by winning his third-round match, the Italian moved right behind Federer with .7786.
Now, with his fourth-round win, he passes him for No. 3 with .7803.
The Italian can’t go any higher than No. 3 even if he wins Miami.
