Carlos Alcaraz is providing plenty of entertainment at the Wimbledon, even beyond his core job of going about defending his title. When asked who had won the round of golf ahead of the start of Wimbledon as he took on retired former champ Andy Murray, Alcaraz first asked the court interviewer Ms Annabel, “He said to you to ask me this question, right?” to loud guffaws from the crowd after his latest win. (I know, I know, OK I know he did,” he said shaking his head.
“Because he played me that day. And he beat me at golf that day,” Alcaraz would carry on. But then few days later we played again. And I beat him. So it was 1-1. We’re tie. We’re tie,” he said as the crowd broke into applause.
When asked if there were further plans to play against Murray, Alcaraz answered, “Let’s see, I love playing golf on my days off. So, I know he has a busy schedule. I guess but I will try to set it up. A golf round again. Nine holes. To see who wins. We are tied 1-1 so I have to play again.”
According to the Royal Spanish Golf Federation’s Handicap Service, Carlos Alcaraz has a handicap of 11.2. Murray, the Scot has a playing partner In cricket legend James Anderson, who has a 1.8 handicap, according to the Independent and was “already down to a respectable 7.0” on 2024 September, 17.
