But he would also like to get some runs under the belt now that there will be a month-long break before the next series against South Africa. Meanwhile, vice-captain Shubman Gill will be looking to turn around his run of low scores in this tour. The sequence of scores since the start of the ODI series reads 10, 9, 24, 37 not out, 5, and 15. The only time he looked in good nick was at Canberra when he stitched a nice little stand with Suryakumar. Gill has been troubled by fuller deliveries with a hint of movement and throughout the better part, he hasn’t exactly looked in the regal touch which has made him the player that he is.
Australia will be without Travis Head, who, like Josh Hazlewood earlier, has been released from the squad to play in the Sheffield Shield in preparation for The Ashes.

There simply haven’t been enough men’s T20I matches at the Carrara Oval over the years, with the venue being more of a regular in women’s international cricket and in the Big Bash League. In the latter, the Carrara Oval had the sixth highest batting strike rate among venues that have hosted at least 10 matches. In men’s international cricket, this ground has hosted just two matches before – on October 5, 2022 against the West Indies and November 17, 2018 against South Africa. Australia won the match against the West Indies, chasing down a target of 146 with just one ball to spare. Before that, they lost a 10-overs-a-side affair against South Africa by 21 runs, failing to chase down a target of 109.

According to AccuWeather, there are almost no chances of rain at all throughout the day in the area, which means the coast is clear for a full T20I match. Temperature is expected to hit a maximum of 25 degrees Celsius around noon time and will then reduce to 20 degrees Celsius in the evening. The match is scheduled to start at 7.15pm local time. Humidity will sit at around 69 per cent.
