Jemimah Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 127 in 134 balls as India stunned defending champions Australia in the semifinal of the 2025 Women’s World Cup on Thursday. It is a result of monumental proportions, with Australia, chasing their eighth title, being the most succesfull team in the history of the tournament by some distance and by far the best team in the world in women’s cricket. Moreover, India had to break the record for the highest succesfull run chase of all time in women’s ODIs, which was, just as incredibly, set by Australia against India themselves just days earlier in the group stage of the tournament.
Phoebe Litchfield’s 119 off 93 balls propelled Australia to 339 all out at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. While India suffered a couple of early setbacks, Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur’s 167-run stand for the third wicket which came in just 156 balls seemed to knock the wind out of Australia’s sails. India ended up chasing the target with five wickets and nine balls to spare.

A record run-chase as payback for a record run-chase
Australia had earlier chased down a target of 331 on October 12 in the group stage of this tournament to set the previous record for the highest ever run chase in the format. Just over a year ago, that record belonged to Sri Lanka when they beat South Africa by six wickets by chasing down a target of 302 in Potchefstroom. For Australia, an outstanding knock of 119 from 93 balls from opener Phoebe Litchfield had formed the bedrock, setting India a massive target.
