The BCCI selectors on Sunday announced the ODI and T20I squads for the ongoing South Africa series with KL Rahul set to lead India in the 50-over format after the injury to regular skipper Shubman Gill in the Kolkata Test last week which ruled him out of this series. Stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retained their place in the squad after their exploits in the Australia series while pacer Jasprit Bumrah was rested.
Wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant is the deputy of Rahul for the series while Ruturaj Gaikwad was also selected for the series. Ravindra Jadeja also made his return to the 50-over team after not playing in the Australia series. Apart from Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel, who took part in the 2-match Test series vs South Africa were also rested.
The first ODI will take place in Ranchi on November 30, followed by the second match at Raipur on December 3. The third and final ODI match will take place on December 6 at Visakhapatnam.
This will be followed by the T20I series which will begin in Cuttack on December 9, followed by the second match in New Chandigarh on December 11. The third match is scheduled for December 14 at Dharamsala and the 4th one will take place in Lucknow on December 17. The last and final match of the series will take place in Ahmedabad on December 19.

India’s regular captain Gill was also ruled out of the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati due to the aforementioned neck injury. Rishabh Pant is currently leading India in the 26-year-old’s absence.
Gill sustained a neck injury while batting in the first innings of the first Test in Kolkata and neither fielded in South Africa’s second innings nor did he bat in India’s second innings during their chase of 124 runs for victory.
The right-hander was taken to a Kolkata hospital after the second day’s play and was discharged the following day. A BCCI press release on Wednesday said that the 26-year-old would travel with the squad to Guwahati, and he will be monitored by the BCCI’s medical team.
