The Indian Women’s cricket team is all set to feature in their final preparatory match ahead of a highly anticipated home ODI World Cup in a special pink kit, facing Australia in the series decider at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday afternoon.
Turning up for the contest only 10 days out from their opening match of the World Cup against co-hosts Sri Lanka, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team will be supporting a special social cause as they ditch the customary blue jersey.
Aimed at promoting breast cancer awareness, the Women in Blue will be sporting a rare pink jersey, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed in a video on social media on match-day morning.
“Everyday we train for uncertainties, and this jersey is a reminder for you to be prepared. Let’s make breast self-examination a monthly routine and take a stand against breast cancer,” captain Harmanpreet said in the video message.

“This pink jersey is more than just a symbol. It is a call to build a life-saving habit. Together, let’s fight against breast cancer and give ourselves a hug of life,” all-rounder Sneh Rana said.

In 2016, during an ODI in Visakhapatnam against New Zealand, the men’s team led by former India captain MS Dhoni, wore special jerseys that had their mothers’ names on the back. Then, in 2019, they wore camouflage caps during an ODI against Australia in Ranchi to honour the soldiers who died in the Pulwama terrorist attack.

After failing to put up a fight in the opening fixture of the series in New Chandigarh, India made a resounding comeback in the second skirmish at the same venue. Led by vice-captain Smriti Mandhana’s century, India went onto inflict Australia’s heaviest defeat in W-ODI history by 102 runs. Mandhana broke a heap of records, comprising the fastest-ever ODI ton against Australia in 76 balls while also equalling the record for most centuries as an opener in women’s ODI history.
