India vs Japan Women’s Asia Cup Hockey 2025 Super 4s Live Score: With a place in the final at stake, Indian women’s hockey team played out a thrilling 1-1 draw against Japan in a critical Super 4s fixture at the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 in Hangzhou on Saturday. India are currently placed second in the Super 4s standing on four points, after starting the stage with an impressive 4-2 win against Korea, but then facing a setback against red-hot China, who won 4-2 on Thursday in the teams’ second Super 4s clash. With that win, China assured themselves of a place in the final, leaving India, Korea and Japan fighting for the other slot on the final day of Super 4s action.

Now that India and Japan has ended in a draw, Japan are out of contention for the final. India, however, have to wait for the result of Korea vs China to know whether they have done enough. If Korea lose or the match ends in a draw, then India will play China in the final on Sunday. But if Korea manage to beat China by two goals, then India won’t make it to the title clash. For what it’s worth, China have been near invincible so far in this tournament.

Reminder that the winner of this tournament gets an automatic spot at next year’s World Cup.

Against China . Mumtaz Khan (38′) was the only goalscorer for India, while Zou Meirong (4′, 56′), Chen Yang (31′) and Tan Jinzhuang (47′) scored goals for China. It wasn’t a bad performance by Coach Harendra Singh’s side but the result did illustrate the gap in quality between India and the Paris Olympics silver medallists. Read more about that here.

Women’s Asia Cup hockey: India’s 1-4 reversal against China wasn’t a bad performance, but one that had avoidable mistakes

When Mumtaz Khan completed a flowing passing move, transitioning from offence to defence, receiving a pass at the edge of the circle and firing home a powerful tomahawk at goal that gave the Chinese goalkeeper little time to react, India managed to do what no other team had before this match. They breached the Chinese defence, scoring against the hosts for the first time in five matches. Arriving midway through the third quarter, the goal was just reward for India’s attacking endeavour.

But as a team harbouring ambitions of winning the Asia Cup, the Indian women’s hockey team did not quite lay down the marker, as they went down 1-4 in Hangzhou on Thursday. India now have to avoid defeat, at the very least, against Japan on Saturday or better yet, win outright, to earn a rematch against China on Sunday.
