India 4th Test Match Predicted Playing 11 vs England , Full Squad: This is it for India, with regards to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. They trail 2-1 in the five-match series and a defeat in the fourth Test at Old Trafford would confirm a defeat for India in the rubber. At the same time, persistent rains in Manchester has put a cloud of doubt over whether there will be a result in this match or not. The conditions could also have an impact on team selections.
Overcast conditions would be useful for the pacers. However, the Old Trafford pitch generally tends to remain dry with former England players like Mike Atherton saying that the wrist-spin of Kuldeep Yadav could come handy. The humid conditions could prompt Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill to weigh bringing back Shardul Thakur as a pace-bowling all-rounder replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Gill confirmed that Rishabh Pant is fit enough to keep wickets, which means that Dhruv Jurel will probably not get a chance to show his skills with the bat in England after having impressed with the gloves in the third Test. Karun Nair has come in for a lot of criticism, with many expecting him to lose his place to Sai Sudharsan. In the first Test, he got out on 0 and 20, batting at No 6. In the two Tests since, he made scores of 31, 26, 40 and 14, all at No 3 after India left out Sai Sudharsan. Gill didn’t really indicate any intention to take the step, even defending Nair’s performances and citing that the 33-year-old had to bat out of his usual position early on. It means that he can also be expected to be in the squad. However, it would still be a surprise if Sudharsan doesn’t return to the squad and that would mean a drop for Nair.
Jasprit Bumrah will be playing in this Test, as will the tireless Mohammed Siraj. Akash Deep is ruled out and there is a chance of India giving a debut cap to pacer Anshul Kamboj. Gill hinted that Kamboj – who had been called up to the squad as pace-bowling cover – could well be in line. “He is very close to making his debut. We’re going to see it tomorrow between him and Prasidh, who’s going to make it,” Gill said.
