Abhishek Sharma’s run rampage continued as he waltzed to the top of the T20I scoring charts when he became the fastest man to reach 1000 T20I runs during the fifth India versus Australia match at Gabba on Saturday.
Opening the batting for the Men in Blue, Sharma reached the milestone when he reached 11 runs in 7 deliveries, completing the 1000-run milestone in only his 29th innings since his debut in July 2024.
While Virat Kohli holds the Indian T20I record as the quickest to reach 1000 runs in 27 innings, the Punjab batter dominates the world charts in terms of balls faced, reaching the milestone in his 28th innings.
Abhishek surpassed India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav to become the quickest batter to reach 1000 T20I runs in only balls. Suryakumar, who made his India T20I debut at 31, reached his 1000th run in 573 deliveries. Australia veteran Glenn Maxwell had completed 1000 runs in 603 balls.

Recently, Tim David had surpassed Suryakumar to become the quickest batter to record 1000 T20I runs for a specific country. The Singapore-born batter had completed 1000 runs for Australia in 569 balls, four balls fewer than Suryakumar, with both feats overtaken by Abhishek with his run riot.
Abhishek currently stands atop the batting charts in the ongoing series and recently led the scoring during India’s victorious Asia Cup 2025 campaign in the United Arab Emirates.
The 24-year-old is also the highest-ranked T20I batter in the ICC rankings, standing clear of his competition with 925 rating points.

Since his debut, no batter has recorded more T20I runs at a higher batting strike rate than Abhishek (189-plus*). With 64 sixes, Abhishek also leads the charts among all T20I batters from Full-Member nations in this period.
