Immanuel Feyi-Waboso: England winger ‘feeling strong’ after forgoing surgery

England winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso may have an outside chance of returning to action before the end of the Six Nations, says his club boss.

The 22-year-old Exeter back, who is a medical student, has decided not to have surgery on a dislocated shoulder he suffered before Christmas after discussions between England and his club.

Exeter director of rugby Rob Baxter says the Welsh-born player has instead gone down a “conservative rehab route” for the injury.

Feyi-Waboso has impressed for England since making his debut in last year’s Six Nations and has gone on to score five tries in his eight caps – including scoring in both Tests away to New Zealand last summer.

“If the next two or three weeks go really well, whether he’ll be back around the tail-end of the Six Nations, I wouldn’t like to be the person who makes that call,” Baxter told BBC Radio Devon, when asked about Feyi-Waboso’s England chances.

“But obviously the elements of when it got sorted were delayed for various reasons, and that’s just created this kind of scenario where we’re now on a week-by-week [basis], see where he goes.

“This morning again he looked very good, he said his shoulder’s feeling strong.

“He’s very optimistic about how quickly things are moving on, so we’ll just have to see when he gets back to full fitness.

“A big question mark will be when he gets back to contact training and how he feels when he’s doing that.”

England suffered another injury blow out wide when Caden Murley was forced to withdraw from the squad on Tuesday with a foot problem, having scored on his debut in the loss to Ireland.
