Indian wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh opened up about how it helped to have conversations regarding the pitch with the likes of spinners Deepti Sharma and Sree Charani during the Women’s ODI World Cup final against South Africa on Sunday.
Deepti had unarguably the best bowling spell of the tournament, where she took 5/39 in 9.3 overs and was supported by Charani, who took 1/48 in her nine overs.
“I think the spinners that we have, whether it is Deepti or Charani. I ask them how the pitch is reacting and what is happening. It helps me and them as well. When I am keeping, I should also know how the pitch is reacting. I think that helps both of them. We talked about which ball would be good. I think that helped us a lot today,” Ghosh told reporters after the final on Sunday.
As had been the case for the majority of the tournament, Ghosh produced a blistering cameo late in the innings with a 24-ball 34 that helped India end the innings with a competitive score on the board.
The 22-year-old admitted that the Navi Mumbai pitch used for the final was a bit tricky, after it had been kept under covers for most of the afternoon due to persistent rain at the stadium.
“It was a bit tricky. It wasn’t come on to the bat as well. But I think it got better the second time,” she said.
The Bengal wicketkeeper-batter also lauded the influence of coach Amol Muzumdar in the setup, admitting that he had kept the team atmosphere positive and supported her during his time as coach with the team.

“I think he kept everyone together. There were positive vibes in the team all the way through. He helped everyone a lot. He always backed me as well,” she said.
