Teaming up with another-level AlcarazAlcaraz on Federer’s career advice

Roger Federer threw in a few trick serves and several between-the-legs shots to dazzle some young players who were giddy to get a few minutes hitting with the 20-time Grand Slam champion. However, it was an Instagram picture carousel from Federer with the latest blonde sensation in the tennis world that grabbed the spotlight this week. Teaming up for a hit at the golf course with the reigning US Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz, Federer marked his excitement for the 2025 Laver Cup edition.

In San Francisco for the tournament this weekend at Chase Center that he supports and promotes, Federer took part in an unveiling of six renovated courts at John McLaren Park for the event’s Community Legacy Project that’s done at each stop. The 20-time Grand Slam champion grunted and grinned while strategizing alongside Yannick Noah, who will be captain of Team Europe for the tennis showcase.

Federer, who retired three years ago at age 41, caught his first glimpse of the unique black court at the Golden State Warriors’ arena and was itching to get out there.

“I looked really special,” Federer said. “I feel very, sad is not the word, but I’m missing out that I can’t play, because this is a venue I would have loved to play. And I had a chat with Tim Henman at the hotel later on and said, ‘This would be an amazing place to play tennis.’ So I will miss that, but I will enjoy it as a fan.”

Teaming up with another-level Alcaraz

Warming up to the festivities with Alcaraz, Federer wrote a cheeky caption for his Instagram post that hosted a slew of pictures from their golf-course trip. “Welcome to Laver Cup 2025, Carlitos… nice work on the golf course. Hope you packed your tennis rackets.”

Federer tipped Team Europe to win the Laver Cup over Team World, predicting the side to ride heavily on the otherworldly Alcaraz, who recently became one of the fastest men to claim six Grand Slam titles. “I think Europe is probably the favourite – mainly because of Alcaraz and [Alexander] Zverev on the team,” Federer said. “Especially Alcaraz – he’s playing tennis on another level, honestly. I always enjoy watching Carlos – he’s a real treat to watch.”

Alcaraz on Federer’s career advice

Alcaraz, fresh off his second triumph at the US Open, recently spoke about Federer’s specific career advice.”He told me you have to be focused on the next five years, from here to when I’m 27,” Alcaraz said. “And then, when I get 27, then think about five years more. Who told me was Roger. So I think that’s the best person that he, I mean, he could tell me that, and I will try to follow his words.”
