Turkey’s 14-year-old holds Gukesh to Rd 2 draw

Reigning world champion Gukesh D faced a remarkable young talent in the second round of the FIDE Grand Swiss tournament in 14-year-old Turkish grandmaster Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus. When Gukesh, who himself became a world champion at 18, sat across from his opponent in Samarkand, it was like looking at a younger reflection of his own prodigious journey.
The match on Friday was a testament to Erdogmus’s skill. He managed to hold Gukesh to a 46-move draw with the black pieces, a feat that drew significant praise. Gukesh applied immense pressure throughout the middle game, but the young Turkish player showcased incredible resilience and resourcefulness, finding a way to secure the draw. READ MORE
