After TIPRA Motha legislator Philip Kumar Reang, an ally of the ruling BJP in Tripura, was allegedly threatened by a group of youths inside the newly built MLA hostel in Agartala, the BJP stated Wednesday that the government would take action against those responsible for disturbing law and order.

Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Tripura unit president Rajib Bhattacharya said, “Soon after the incident, the police rushed to the spot. The deputy speaker visited the spot to inquire about the incident, and an FIR was also lodged. Law and order is the priority. Those who are trying to disturb the law and order, the law will go its own way.”
He said high security measures are in place and the law is prepared to take action, not only in the MLA hostel, but throughout the state, including during the ongoing Ganesh Puja festivities.
“Huge participation of people is seen in different festivals, which implies that law and order are ensured. If law and order is disturbed, the government will not spare them,” he added.
Reacting to the incident, CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said, “The incident that occurred yesterday showed that there is no law and order. It has completely fallen into the hands of anti-social activists and the mafia. Police are inactive, and a section of the police has turned into a blind party follower. The BJP has no control over its activists. The relation between the BJP and its ally TIPRA Motha went down.”
The incident took place Monday night when Philip Reang, a legislator representing the Kanchanpur Assembly constituency, was speaking to his family and was threatened by a group of young individuals. Afterwards, he reported the incident to the superintendent of police for the West district, prompting a police team to move to the MLA hostel quickly.
The MLA later posted on his Facebook page, “The new MLA hostel is not safe for MLAs. I was threatened around 10 PM today by three to four unknown individuals who were all drunk, right in front of my room. Who will take responsibility for these security lapses?”

DGP Anurag Dhyankar visited the site the following day and promised to enhance the security system. Later, MLA Reang complained to the New Capital Complex (NCC) police station about four people. “I have complained to four persons, including Prateek Debbarma, Ajay and two others. The police assured us to look into the matter legally,” said Reang.
In a separate context, Chaudhury said, “CM (Dr Manik Saha) is realising his weakness. He said that the opposition is not seeing the development that they need, and they need a cataract operation. We told you earlier that you have a 2.5-year tenure. You do work. We are not saying to leave your seat just yet. We have not raised this slogan. But people of your party are trying to hatch a conspiracy to take you down from your seat.”
