India has announced their squad for the upcoming ODI series in Australia. There has been plenty on debate weather Harshit Rana should be part of the squad and to join the list who is not in favour of having Rana in the squad got added former Indian opener Sadagoppan Ramesh who belives that Rana should have been replaced by Varun Chakaravarthy who has had fabalous time in the Indian colours since comeback to the side in T20I format and also has shown his trickry in ODI format ealrier this year when presented with opportunity.
“Varun Chakaravarthy shouldn’t have been there instead of any of the other spinners picked in the ODI squad. Instead, the question should be Harshit Rana or Varun Chakaravarthy. Irrespective of where the game is being played around the world, my pick would be Varun Chakaravarthy. If it were at least someone like Mohammed Shami, who is high quality, then it’s fine,” said Ramesh on his YouTube channel.
“You’ve picked Varun Chakaravarthy for the same Australian conditions in the T20 squad. So, for four overs in the same conditions, you’ve picked Varun Chakaravarthy, thinking he’ll be your best spinner. But saying he won’t be able to bowl 10 overs in the same conditions feels contradictory,” he added.
Krishnamachari Srikkanth slams Harshit Rana’s selection
Former India chairman of selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth did not mince words as he lambasted the team management for the inclusion of Harshit Rana in the ODI squad for the Australia tour on Saturday.
“By making such selections constantly, they are confusing the players themselves. Even though we aren’t sure every day what the selection will be. Suddenly, Yashasvi Jaiswal is there, and then the next minute, he won’t be there. There is only one permanent member – Harshit Rana. Nobody knows why he is there in the team. By chopping and changing all the time, they’ll dent the confidence of the players.
“You don’t pick some players even if they do well and take others even if they don’t. The best is to be like Harshit Rana and be a constant yes-man to Gambhir to be selected. You should start building towards the 2027 World Cup. But I feel they’ve not. If you pick Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy among the probabilities, then you can wave goodbye to the trophy,” an unfiltered Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
