A former BJP Kisan Morcha leader was fatally shot by an unidentified assailant in Patna’s Sheikhpura village Saturday evening, police said.
The victim, identified as Surendra Prasad — aged about 50 years — was working in his field outside the village when the incident occurred. This comes over a week after a prominent Patna businessman, Gopal Khemka, was fatally shot outside his apartment building in Patna.
This is the third incident in Patna in three days. A day before, a 40-year-old shop owner, Vikram Jha, was gunned down Friday night in east Patna’s Ramakrishna Nagar. On July 10, sand-trader Ramkant Yadav, 50, was shot dead outside his home in west Patna’s Rani Bazar area.
“People in the area stated that the victim was working alone when an unknown person fired at him and fled the scene,” Kanhaiya Singh, sub-divisional police officer (Masaurhi 2), said. “Upon hearing the gunshot, local residents rushed to the spot and transported him to AIIMS Patna by autorickshaw, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment”.
Preliminary inquiries indicate that Prasad was a farmer and a rural medical practitioner. “We have questioned people in the vicinity, but so far, no one has reported seeing the perpetrator fleeing,” the officer added.

“No empty cartridge has been recovered so far,” the SP said, adding that as per preliminary reports, the victim reportedly sustained “a single gunshot wound”.
“We are in the process of registering an FIR based on the family’s application. The family has not expressed suspicion against any individual at this stage. We are further investigating the case with all possible angles to identify and arrest the assailant,” SP Kumar said.
Meanwhile, RJD leader and Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav tweeted: “And now, a BJP leader has been shot dead in Patna! Who should we talk to, whom should we tell? In the NDA government, there’s no one to listen to the truth, no one to accept their mistakes. Everyone knows about the Chief Minister’s health, but what are the two useless Deputy Chief Ministers from the BJP doing? Why hasn’t the corrupt Bhuja-DK party made any statement?”
