The 78th Army Day Parade was held in Jaipur on Thursday. This year, the parade moved into a public city space for the first time. Normally, Army Day parades take place inside military cantonments.
First parade on city streets
The march past and military display unfolded on Mahal Road in Jagatpura. Thousands of people lined the streets to watch. This is the first time a full Army Day parade has been held outside a cantonment area in India.

Senior defence officials, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, were present at the occasion, watching the parade and related programmes. The Army Day parade featured the various mechanical units, infantry units, paratroopers and other modern capabilities of the Army.
The parade included:
- Army marching contingents
- New high-tech units and equipment
- Tanks, drones and robotics displays
- Flypast by helicopters and aircraft
- A first public appearance of the new Bhairav Battalion
Bhairav Battalion made its first public appearance
The Bhairav Battalion, raised for modern warfare needs, made its debut. The parade showcased the newly raised Bhairav battalion, which was part of the Army’s recent restructuring, drawing operational lessons from global conflicts, including its own Operation Sindoor.
The Bhairav Battalion is positioned between the Para Special Forces and regular infantry units. The battalion was raised to meet modern warfare requirements to provide a quick and precise offensive solution against enemies’ threats to the nation.
The battalion, in its first public appearance, came out with its feet thumping the concrete and shouting its war cry with paint on their face.
Prior to the parade, veterans and ‘Veer Naris’ were honoured. Gallantry awards, military citations and certificates were presented in a formal investiture.
