FASTag Annual Pass 2025: Last month, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) announced a new annual pass for FASTags that allows free passage of private cars/jeeps/vans at designated National Highway (NH) and National Motorway (NE) fee plazas for one year or 200 trips (whichever comes first), with no per-trip user fees.
The Annual Pass will go into effect on August 15, 2025, and is designed to reduce wait times, congestion, and conflicts at toll booths, resulting in a faster and more convenient travel experience for millions of private car owners.
The approach tackles long-standing complaints about toll plazas within a 60-kilometre radius, combining toll payments into a single, cost-effective transaction.
How does the FASTag Annual Pass work?
Users can utilise any national highway or motorway till the validity period expires by renewing their FASTags for Rs 3,000. When the validity of these passes expires, users can recharge them in the same way as they would with the current FASTag system.
Which fee plazas are covered under the FASTag Annual Pass?
It is only accessible at the National Highway (NH) and National Motorway (NE) fee plazas. The FASTag will function like a regular FASTag at fee plazas on motorways, state highways (SH), and other locations governed by state governments or local authorities, as well as parking areas, and corresponding user fees may apply.
For how long does the FASTag Annual Pass remain valid?
The Annual Pass remains valid for one year from the date of activation, or 200 transactions (trips), whichever happens first. Once the Annual Pass has completed 200 travels or one year from the date of activation, it will automatically return to a regular FASTag. To continue using Annual Pass privileges, the user must reactivate them to receive 200 travel credits with a one-year validity period.
Is the FASTag Annual Pass readily available for any vehicle?
No, the Annual Pass is only valid for private non-commercial automobiles, jeeps, and vans as determined by the VAHAN database. Use in any commercial vehicle may lead to instant deactivation without notice.

Is the FASTag Annual Pass required, and what happens if the road user chooses not to use it?
The Annual Pass is optional; the present FASTag ecosystem will continue to function as is. Users who do not purchase the Annual Pass can still use their FASTag for ordinary transactions at fee plazas, subject to the corresponding user fee rates.
