Mansa Devi Temple Stampede News: At least six people died and many were injured in a stampede outside the Mansa Devi temple in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar on Sunday morning, officials said.
According to IG Law and Order, Nilesh Bharne, devotees were moving towards the temple when the incident took place at around 9 am on Sunday. “There was some rumour about electricity hazards, creating panic among the devotees, leading to the situation. We are inspecting the causes, and rescue is underway,” said Bharne

Currently, the state is seeing an influx of devotees in the month of Sawan. The temple is situated atop Bilwa Parwat, a kilometre away from the road, and can be accessed on a ropeway and a staircase. The incident took place on the staircase. An SDRF official said that although the temple saw a rush on Sunday, it was exacerbated after claims spread regarding a faulty electricity line.
The SDRF said that after the information was received about the stampede at the temple, three response force teams were dispatched to the site.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami took to Facebook and said, “A very tragic news has been received about a stampede on the way to the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar. SDRF, local police, and other rescue teams have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am in constant touch with the local administration regarding this incident and am continuously monitoring the situation. I pray to Mata Rani for the safety and well-being of all the devotees.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his condolences with those who lost their loved ones in the stampede and assured assistance to the affected.
In a post on X, the PMO said, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede on the route to Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is assisting those affected.”
CM Dhami also announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
Acting on the Chief Minister’s instructions, the District Magistrate of Haridwar has been ordered to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the incident, besides taking prompt action. A thorough review of crowd management and security arrangements is also being undertaken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future, the CMO said.

Secretary of Disaster Management, Vinod Kumar Suman, informed that five of the devotees who were seriously injured have been referred to AIIMS Rishikesh. Additionally, 23 others who were injured are being treated at the district hospital in Haridwar.
