Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Friday condemned the purported derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his deceased mother at a recent Opposition rally led by Rahul Gandhi and Tejaswi Yadav in Bihar.
Speaking to reporters in Agartala, CM Saha said, “Elections will come and go. But the entire political ecology of the country has changed since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the oath of office as PM in 2014 and the BJP-led government was formed here in 2018. The Congress and the RJD could never tolerate that a chaiwala (tea seller) has become the prime minister of the country. They had tried to malign him earlier, but this time they badmouthed his deceased mother. It can’t be tolerated by anyone.”
The chief minister added that Bihar has a cultural heritage and people of the state wouldn’t tolerate “discourteous words”. Saha also demanded a public apology from Congress and RJD leaders over the issue.
Meanwhile, the Tripura unit of the Congress announced that it will hold a ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor’ rally in Agartala on Saturday, to protest against alleged electoral malpractices in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Lok Sabha MP and Congress’s Tripura in-charge Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka arrived in Tripura on Friday to participate in the upcoming rally.
Speaking to reporters, Ulaka said the Election Commission attacked the Congress without giving any clarification about their charges of electoral malpractices.
“We did the first phase of the protest in Parliament. In the second phase, rallies under the slogan ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor’ will be conducted in every state. Third, we shall go to the people and collect 10 crore signatures and submit them to the President or the Election Commission… The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar is a ploy to deprive the Dalits, tribals, and backward communities from exercising their franchise, and these voters are in favour of the INDIA bloc. We shall continue this protest till the EC takes any step,” Ulaka added.

When asked about the situation in Manipur, Ulaka, who is also the Manipur in-charge of the party, said that at least 60,000 people remain displaced in the northeastern state.
“PM is not speaking a word on the Manipur issue… Kuki people can’t go to Meitei people’s area, and Meitei people can’t go to Kuki people’s area. The state is under President’s Rule despite having 55 MLAs. We demand that fresh elections be conducted in the state at the earliest,” he further said.
