Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (Aug 31) held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, where he said that New Delhi is committed to taking India-China relations forward on the basis of “mutual trust, respect and sensitivity”.
During his meeting with Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China’s Tianjin, PM Modi also noted that there is peace and stability along the border after last year’s disengagement.
“Last year in Kazan, we had very fruitful discussions, which gave a positive direction to our relations. After the disengagement on the border, an atmosphere of peace and stability has been created,” the Indian prime minister said.
‘Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has been resumed’
PM Modi, in his televised opening remarks, noted that an agreement was reached between Special Representatives on border management and that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has been resumed.
He also made a mention of the resumption of direct flights between the two countries.
“An agreement has been reached between our Special Representatives regarding border management. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has been resumed. Direct flights between the two countries are also being resumed,” PM Modi said.

‘Interests of 2.8 billion people of both countries are linked to our cooperation’
He highlighted that the interests of 2.8 billion people of both countries are linked to bilateral cooperation between India and China.

“The interests of 2.8 billion people of both countries are linked to our cooperation. This will also pave the way for the welfare of the entire humanity. We are committed to taking our relations forward on the basis of mutual trust, respect and sensitivity,” he added.
The Indian prime minister further congratulated Xi on China’s successful presidency of the SCO.
PM Modi arrived in China on Saturday, after a gap of seven years, to attend the SCO summit. His visit comes amid strained India-US ties, triggered by US President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Indian goods.
