The Chhattisgarh Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday approved a draft Bill for establishing an authority for the planned development of the State Capital Region (SCR) in Chhattisgarh, which was one of the 20 major promises made by the BJP ahead of the 2023 Assembly polls.
The SCR will connect Raipur city to two major cities — New Raipur (26 kms away) in Raipur district and Bhilai city (32.6 kms away) in Durg district.
“With a projected population of nearly 50 lakhs in the region by 2031, the authority will ensure efficient land use, environmental conservation, and sustainable urban development,” said an official.
The state Cabinet also approved the draft of the Chhattisgarh Agricultural Produce Market (Amendment) Bill, 2025, under which farmers can sell their produce online through Central government’s e-NAM portal.
“Even traders outside Chhattisgarh can buy crops online without registering in the state. This means more traders will join, and farmers will have more options,” the official said. “In tribal areas of Chhattisgarh like Bastar, Surguja, Kanker, and Korea, many farmers are facing difficulties in reaching the mandis. But now, they can sell their crops using a mobile phone,” the official added.
