Carlos Alcaraz clinches 2025 year-end No. 1 ranking after victory over Musetti at ATP Finals

Carlos Alcaraz has clinched the ATP’s 2025 year-end No. 1 ranking after defeating Lorenzo Musetti at the ATP Finals on Thursday, 6-4, 6-1.

The Spaniard improved to 3-0 in his round-robin group with the win, and having started the week with 11,050 points—and with each round-robin win worth 200 points—he’ll now have at least 11,650 ranking points after the tournament. That’s now out of reach for Jannik Sinner, who would finish with 11,500 even with an undefeated title run in Turin.

Having also done it in 2022, Alcaraz is now the 11th player to finish two or more years at No. 1 in ATP rankings history, since they began in 1973.

He’s also the first player born since 2000, or even since 1990, to do it.

PLAYERS TO FINISH TWO OR MORE YEARS AS ATP NO. 1:

  • 8: Novak Djokovic [2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023]
  • 6: Pete Sampras [1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998]
  • 5: Jimmy Connors [1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978]
  • 5: Roger Federer [2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009]
  • 5: Rafael Nadal [2008, 2010, 2013, 2017, 2019]
  • 4: John McEnroe [1981, 1982, 1983, 1984]
  • 4: Ivan Lendl [1985, 1986, 1987, 1989]
  • 2: Bjorn Borg [1979, 1980]
  • 2: Stefan Edberg [1990, 1991]
  • 2: Lleyton Hewitt [2001, 2002]
  • 2: Carlos Alcaraz [2022, 2025]
