THE BJP on Wednesday alleged that Congress leader Pawan Khera’s wife and Congress Working Committee member Kota Neelima too has two active voter ID (EPIC) cards, and said Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi cannot extricate himself from such “acts of criminality within his own ranks”.
“Kota Neelima, another Congress leader, candidate from Khairatabad (60) Assembly segment in Telangana, and wife of Pawan Khera, also holds two active EPICs — one registered in Khairatabad (Assembly constituency in Telangana) and another in New Delhi,” BJP IT department head Amit Malviya said on X.
“It is now quite obvious that Congress leaders hold multiple EPIC numbers and are registered voters in more than one place. This is no coincidence… Those indulging in ‘Vote Chori’ are the very ones maligning common citizens for exercising their democratic rights and weakening our institutions,” he said.
The BJP had made similar claims against Khera on Tuesday, accusing him of being registered as a voter from Jangpura and New Delhi Assembly constituencies. Following the allegations, the District Election Office of New Delhi district issued a notice to Khera, asking why action should not be taken against him under the Representation of People Act.
Khera, on Tuesday, said it was “yet another confirmation” of how the EC “functions to support the ruling regime”.
Accusing Khera of hypocrisy, BJP national spokesperson Shazia Ilmi alleged that while Rahul Gandhi never misses a chance to make allegations of voter ID duplications, he “conveniently remains silent when members of his own core team” are caught in similar situations.
“Whether it is Pawan Khera and his family or Bihar’s Tejashwi Yadav — who was left embarrassed after his own dual voter IDs surfaced immediately after a press conference — these controversies only expose the Congress’s old tactics of electoral fraud,” she said.
