Counting for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections began Friday morning, and early trends show the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU, taking a clear lead over the Rashtriya Janata Dal-led opposition Mahagathbandhan. According to ECI ta, the NDA has already crossed the majority mark of 122 seats in the 243-member assembly. As of 10; 15 am, NDA is leading in 160 constituencies, while the Mahagathbandhan, led by Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD, is ahead in 79 seats. Poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj, expected to underperform, is showing early leads in two seats.
The NDA tally has crossed the 160 mark, and if these numbers hold, the alliance will comfortably form the government. (ECI)
As per exit polls, the NDA, which also includes Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas), Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha, and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha, to comfortably pass above the majority mark. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan, comprising the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, was predicted to secure a decline from its 110-seat tally in the previous election. Jan Suraaj, contesting 239 seats in its debut, was projected to win just one seat, though the early trends suggest some initial gains.
Early counting trends indicate continuity for the ruling alliance and reinforce the exit poll expectations. The full results, expected later today, will confirm which alliance secures power in Bihar for the next term.
