Bihar Assembly Election 2025 Live Updates: The Congress Saturday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, announcing names for five constituencies — Narkatiaganj, Kishanganj, Kasba, Purnia, and Gaya Town. The Mahagathbandhan which includes the RJD and Congress has been unable to finalise a seat-sharing arrangement for the first phase of polling. The last date for filing nominations for the remaining 122 seats in the second phase is Monday.
Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) president Pashupati Kumar Paras also declared that his party would contest the November Assembly elections alone, saying he was compelled to do so after his efforts to join the Opposition Mahagathbandhan failed. “I made significant efforts to forge an alliance with the Mahagathbandhan this time, but it didn’t materialise,” Paras said while announcing a list of 33 candidates from the RLJP.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah appeared to touch a raw nerve within ally JD(U) by suggesting in a recent interview with India Today TV that the choice of chief minister, should the NDA win in Bihar, “remains open”. Shah said that while the NDA was contesting under the leadership of JD(U) chief and incumbent CM Nitish Kumar, a decision on the new chief minister would be taken after the polls. The JD(U) in turn asserted that Nitish, despite his health concerns, remains “the strongest NDA face” in Bihar.
