A Premiership rugby club has submitted an amended planning application for its proposed new 18,000 capacity stadium.
Bath Rugby have played at the Recreation Ground since 1894 and are working on plans to modernise the stadium, improve facilities and increase the capacity from the current 14,500.
Under the plans, the height of the east and west stands would be reduced to improve views of the surrounding town and countryside.
“The amended submission showcases an exciting vision for the future, with significant public benefits that will positively contribute to the entire community,” said Tarquin McDonald, chief executive of Bath Rugby.
“We now look forward to the council bringing the proposals to a planning committee in the new year,” he added.
The club currently uses a temporary East Stand that is normally dismantled and removed during the summer so that people can enjoy an unobstructed view of the landscape.
Plans for the redevelopment were originally submitted in 2018 but have been delayed by design changes and legal disputes that went all the way to the Supreme Court.
A separate amended application was submitted in 2023 and the new proposals retain many of the same features, with the majority of the changes focusing on the stands and seating.
“We’ve listened closely to the community and our stakeholders,” said Mr McDonald.
“We are committed to delivering a stadium that not only meets the needs of our fans but also respects the rich heritage of Bath.”
The application is expected to be considered by Bath and North East Somerset Council in 2025.
Bath are enjoying a successful season and currently sit top of the Premiership on points difference from West Country rivals Bristol after eight matches.
