A Bangladeshi woman infiltrator and her Indian boyfriend have been arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days in Sepahijala district of Tripura, the police said on Friday.
The Border Security Force (BSF) detained the duo in Kamthana on Thursday and later handed them over to the police.
The woman, a resident of Bogra district in Bangladesh, allegedly entered Tripura illegally earlier this week. Her boyfriend is a resident of Bidar district in Karnataka.
The Bangladeshi woman earlier reportedly worked in beauty parlours in Mumbai and Bengaluru.
“She fell in love with the man while staying in Bengaluru. Later, she went back to Bangladesh and then illegally sneaked back inside Tripura without any valid document to meet him and travel back to Bengaluru,” a police officer said.
The man also came to Tripura to take her back to Bengaluru and stayed at a residence in Madhupur. But they were arrested before they could leave for Bengaluru, said the police.
The police have registered cases under the Passports Act, the Foreigners Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and said they would arrest all those involved in the case.
