A militant was killed and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army was injured in a gunfight Monday morning in South Kashmir’s Kulgam.
A joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the forested area in Guddar of Kulgam after they received “specific intelligence input” about the presence of militants.
The Army confirmed the killing of the militant and injury to the officer.
“Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist has been eliminated and a junior commissioned officer suffered injuries,” the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X.
The Army said the operation is in progress as the joint team of forces is looking for other possible militants in the forest area.
Last month, the Army launched a massive operation in the forest areas of Kulgam, during which wo soldiers and a militant were killed. The other militants, however, managed to escape after 11 days, forcing the Army to call off the operation.
